Singer specifies transparent Class 15 bobbins for the Heavy Duty 4423. The machine has a top drop-in bobbin system; use the loading path shown in its manual.
A listing that says only “fits Singer Heavy Duty” leaves the key question unanswered. Check for the required class and material.
Keep 15J and metal bobbins apart
Singer’s bobbin guidance distinguishes transparent Class 15 from 15J and metal Class 15. The shared number does not make them interchangeable. If you have mixed bobbins, compare them with an original and the manual rather than testing unknown ones by sewing.
| Item | Decision for the 4423 | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Transparent Class 15 | Use this specified bobbin style | Flat faces and transparent construction. |
| Class 15J / metal Class 15 | Do not substitute | Singer distinguishes the profile or material. |
| Class 66 | A different bobbin class | A similar diameter does not make it Class 15. |
| Needle | Choose system, point and size separately | The bobbin reference does not determine the needle for your fabric. |
Choose feet separately from bobbins
The 4423 uses snap-on feet and offers a maximum 6 mm stitch width. Check an individual foot’s supported model list and instructions. A bobbin fit cannot establish a foot fit.
Before your first seam with a replacement
Inspect the new bobbin for damage, wind it from empty and install it in the direction shown by the machine. Sew a short seam on a scrap of the project fabric. If the thread jams, stop and check loading and threading before changing tension screws.
