Privacy
We use first-party measurements to improve this site: daily aggregate reports and a private dashboard with live and historical views. Our measurements do not use analytics cookies, fingerprinting or tracking across websites.
Amazon affiliate links and third-party privacy
Some product links are Amazon affiliate links. They include a tracking tag that identifies our affiliate account, not an individual reader, so Amazon can attribute qualifying purchases and pay us a commission. See our affiliate disclosure.
Following an Amazon link takes you to Amazon, which may redirect you to a local Amazon store. Amazon may collect information directly from your browser and use or recognise cookies and similar technologies to operate its services, attribute purchases and personalise content or advertising, subject to the applicable store's policies and your choices. We do not receive your Amazon password or payment details.
An affiliate link alone does not place an Amazon cookie on this site. If a page displays an image supplied directly by Amazon, your browser contacts Amazon to load it; Amazon can then receive technical information such as your IP address and browser information before you click a product link.
Read Amazon's Privacy Notice and About Cookies. You can manage Amazon advertising preferences, use the privacy and cookie controls offered by your local Amazon store, and manage cookies in your browser. Advertising preferences do not necessarily disable cookies needed for other Amazon services.
The measurement choices below, including ?analytics=off, control our own site measurements. They do not change Amazon's cookies, affiliate attribution or privacy settings.
What we measure
We count page displays, searches submitted or followed by a result selection, clicks on search results, links between pages, menu and filter actions, and outbound product links. Typing alone is not counted as a search. We count a compatibility answer or affiliate button when at least half of it is visible, once per answer or button destination and position during that page's lifetime. Product links, reference searches and button positions are reported separately. We also count whether a no-match search is followed by a matched retry or an identification choice on that page, and whether an Amazon departure follows a visible answer. These outcome flags live only in page memory and do not connect different pages. We count the initial destination market and whether an answer page contains a reviewed direct product destination. We do not infer your location or observe the final store after a retailer redirect. We estimate active time in five-second units while the page is visible and focused, stopping after sixty seconds without interaction.
Private live activity
The live dashboard estimates active browser tabs seen in the last five minutes and shows aggregate page displays, submitted searches and product-link departures. A visible, focused page sends a presence signal every fifteen seconds while there has been interaction within sixty seconds. A random temporary token in this site's tab-specific session storage links these live signals within that tab. It is valid for at most thirty minutes, is replaced on its next use after expiry and is cleared when the browser ends that tab's session. It is not shared between websites or sent to our daily measurement logs. If session storage or secure random-token generation is unavailable, live measurement is skipped; daily measurements can continue.
The server holds only current live visit state for five minutes and minute-level aggregate counters for thirty minutes, in memory. Tokens and individual visitor timelines are not exported. The private dashboard and reports display exact aggregate event counts from the first event, including details by page and source. Active counts are estimates of tabs, not identified or unique people: the same person may be counted more than once across tabs, websites or token changes.
Data minimisation
Only search terms already present in our product catalogue may be counted by name in daily reports. Other text is grouped as “other”; we do not transmit it to analytics. Search categories are limited to known models, parts, brands or other; result counts use broad groups. Search loading errors use fixed technical categories, never the text you entered. Live signals contain only the site, canonical page path, fixed event name, broad source category, attribution version, preview flag and temporary tab token. An affiliate departure also carries a yes/no flag identifying an Amazon link. They do not contain search text, product details or client timestamps. Page URLs exclude query strings and fragments. Traffic sources are limited to broad categories such as search engines, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Le Chat, social networks, messaging services, internal and other. We recognize allowlisted source tags locally when a recognized referrer is absent; only the category is sent, never full referring URLs or campaign parameters. The category applies to the current page and its actions, without storing acquisition information for later pages.
Daily measurement logs omit IP addresses, request headers, network fingerprints and exact times. New timestamps have hour-level precision in UTC, without minutes or seconds; older retained events contain only the UTC date and they contain no visitor or session identifiers. Live state is not written to these logs. Normal page and asset requests are excluded. Separate operational and security logs may temporarily process network information for security and service delivery.
Daily aggregate reports and historical views
Daily reports and the private dashboard's date views contain totals and trends from the same retained daily measurements, with no individual event exports or visitor timelines. Historical dates are UTC calendar days. A single-day chart groups timestamped events by UTC hour; older events with no recorded hour remain in daily totals but cannot be placed on that curve. Detailed page, source and page-by-source outcome groups show exact observed event counts without a minimum-volume threshold or rounding. Ratios use exact event counts and describe events, not visitor conversion. Historical counts do not represent unique visitors. A date without observations is unavailable rather than a confirmed zero. The live and daily streams are not added together. Clicks between two pages do not reconstruct a person's journey.
Retention and your choice
Daily measurement logs use a thirty-day rolling retention target. Private daily aggregate reports, including report logs, are retained for up to ninety days. Live state and minute counters use the much shorter limits described above. We respect your browser's Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals: when either is enabled, this measurement script sends nothing and does not access analytics session storage. Adding ?analytics=off to a page address disables every measurement and saves a constant exclusion preference in this site’s local storage. It is not an identifier and is never transmitted. The preference applies to this browser and site until you clear site data or use ?analytics=on. Opening the private operator dashboard also activates this exclusion on its own site. If browser storage is unavailable, the explicit off parameter still disables measurement and follows internal links; a notice reports that the preference could not be saved. Other sites, browsers and devices need separate activation. Automated browsers are excluded; preview pages do not send live signals or access analytics session storage. We do not track people across websites.
